Terms of Use
Effective May 14, 2026
These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the LakeLore mobile app and lakeloreapp.com (together, the “Service”), operated by LakeLore Co. (“LakeLore”, “we”, “our”). By using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the Service.
What LakeLore is
LakeLore organizes publicly available fish population data — netting and electrofishing surveys, length and weight measurements, and stocking records — from U.S. state fish and wildlife agencies (currently MN DNR, ND Game & Fish, SD GFP, NE Game & Parks, and IA DNR). The Service is built for anglers, conservationists, and the curious.
Free tier and optional subscription
Minnesota lake data is free to browse. No account is required to use the free tier. The optional LakeLore All-States subscription unlocks the remaining covered states (North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, and Iowa) — see the Subscriptions section below for the price, length, and renewal terms.
Subscriptions
LakeLore All-States is an auto-renewing annual subscription that unlocks state coverage outside Minnesota.
- Length: 1 year, auto-renewing.
- Price: US $5.99 per year (Apple and Google translate this to local currency in your region; the displayed price in the app is authoritative for your purchase).
- Free trial: none.
- Billing: charged to your Apple ID or Google account. We do not see or store your payment method.
- Auto-renewal: the subscription renews automatically each year unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Renewals are billed within 24 hours of the end of the current period.
- Cancellation: you can cancel any time from your device’s subscription settings: iOS Settings → your name → Subscriptions, or Google Play → Subscriptions. Cancelling stops future renewals; the current period continues until it expires.
- Refunds: handled by Apple or Google under their respective refund policies. We can’t process refunds directly. Apple: reportaproblem.apple.com. Google: play.google.com/store/account.
- Price changes: if we change the price, Apple and Google will notify you and require your consent before the next renewal under the new price.
By tapping Subscribe in the app, you authorize Apple or Google to charge your account on a recurring basis under the terms above and you agree to these Terms and the Privacy Policy.
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the app, except where such restriction is expressly prohibited by applicable law.
- Scrape, crawl, mirror, or otherwise systematically extract data from the Service or its API beyond ordinary, interactive use.
- Interfere with or disrupt the Service, including by overloading, flooding, or rate-limit-evading the API.
- Use the Service or its data to harass, defraud, or harm any person, fish population, or natural resource.
- Use the Service in violation of any applicable law, including state and federal fishing regulations.
Source data and accuracy
The fish, survey, and stocking data displayed in the Service is sourced from publicly available records published by state fish and wildlife agencies. LakeLore has no affiliation with, endorsement from, or sponsorship by those agencies. We make a good-faith effort to accurately reproduce their data, but:
- The data may contain errors, gaps, or out-of-date entries from the original source.
- The estimated “adults per 100 acres” figure is a model based on stocking records and a constant survival assumption. It is not an actual fish count, and natural reproduction is not modeled.
- Lake conditions, fish populations, and regulations change. Always consult the relevant state agency for the authoritative current rules.
The Service is informational. Do not rely on it for safety, navigation, or regulatory compliance.
Fishing safely and legally
You are responsible for following all applicable fishing regulations, license requirements, water-safety rules, and access permissions. LakeLore does not grant you the right to fish anywhere or to take any species; that is governed by state law and local ordinances. Wear a life jacket. Catch and release the big ones.
Use of the app
You may use the app for your personal, non-commercial use. Please don’t copy or redistribute the LakeLore name, logo, screenshots, or visual design without asking us first.
The underlying agency data is in the public domain or has been published under public-records law. LakeLore makes no ownership claim to the underlying scientific data.
Privacy
Your use of the Service is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which explains what information we may collect and how we use it.
Third-party services
The Service is distributed through the Apple App Store and Google Play, hosted on Fly.io and Vercel, and uses RevenueCat to manage subscription state. Your use of those platforms is subject to their own terms. Subscription billing in particular is governed by Apple’s and Google’s subscription terms in addition to these Terms. The Service links to certain agency websites (such as the MN DNR LakeFinder); LakeLore is not responsible for the content of those sites.
No warranty
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE”, WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION ANY IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, OR ACCURACY OF DATA. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR FREE OF HARMFUL COMPONENTS.
Limitation of liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, LAKELORE CO. AND ITS OPERATORS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, OR FISH, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE. OUR AGGREGATE LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THE SERVICE WILL NOT EXCEED ONE HUNDRED U.S. DOLLARS (USD $100).
Termination
You may stop using the Service at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms or if we discontinue the Service.
Changes
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will revise the effective date above and, for material changes, post an in-app notice the next time you open LakeLore. Your continued use after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Minnesota, U.S.A., without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service will be resolved exclusively in the state or federal courts of competent jurisdiction serving Pipestone County, Minnesota, and you consent to the jurisdiction of those courts.
